Mel's Meditation - December 2012

Sunday, December 16, 2012

One of the many things I enjoy about Christmas is the music. I enjoy the traditional church music and secular music related to Christmas. One of the songs many of us are familiar with is "C is for the Christ Child". I’m not sure what the official song title is, but these are the basic words: C is for the Christ Child born upon this day…H is for Herald Angels in the night… R means our redeemer…I means Israel…S is for the star that shone so bright…T is for three wise men they who travelled far…M is for the manger where he lay…A’s for all he stands for… S means shepherds came. It is a good acrostic for Christmas. What does Christmas mean to you?

As we study the Biblical story of the first Christmas, we several different responses to the birth of Christ. Joseph and Mary accepted the word of the Angel and obeyed. The shepherds left their work to go worship Jesus. The Wise Men traveled from afar to pre-sent Him with precious gifts. The Angels announced and celebrated the birth. Herod feared the birth and tried to kill baby Jesus. Simeon and Anna saw a prophecy fulfilled.

At times we get too busy during the Christmas season. It not that we don’t appreci-ate the true meaning of Christmas, but there are a lot of family and church obligations that are important and good. But the accelerated activities of the season can take some of the joy and meaning out of Christmas. So, what does Christmas mean to you? Try a new acrostic for Christmas that is a personal pick-me-up for the season. There’s obviously nothing wrong with the lyrics to the song, but come up with your own to celebrate Christmas this year.

I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year:

God Bless, Pastor Mel
